Common Tanks

Plastic Tanks

Many home owners in our area of Yavapai County have plastic water storage tanks.  It is important that these be a dark color, not clear or white, to prevent growth of algae in the water.  These tanks are strong and durable.  They can stand alone or be linked together to provide more storage.

Metal tanks

Some people prefer metal to plastic tanks.  Metal tanks often are larger, providing more water storage and greater flexibility in water use.  Additionally, metal tanks can often be repaired if they are punctured, whereas it is very difficult to repair plastic tanks.

General Facts & Recommendations

Tanks can be located above ground, in a building, or buried depending upon the type of tank used.  If they are above ground, they need to be on smooth ground. They should be easy to access for filling or repairs. Tanks can be purchased from local tank dealers or from pump companies.  We recommend that every person have a professional pump company install the tank and water system. They know this area and what works for the different applications.  More water storage equals greater flexibility in water usage.
